Your body isn't broken. It's doing exactly what it evolved to do.

Here's something almost nobody explains properly: your body is not trying to make you thin. It's not trying to make you fat, either. It's trying to keep you alive, using a survival blueprint that hasn't been updated in about forty thousand years.

For most of human history, food was unpredictable. Feast one week, famine the next. Bodies that were good at storing energy as fat during the good times survived the bad times. Bodies that burned through every calorie immediately did not. Guess which genes got passed down?

This means your body has one default strategy whenever it senses a calorie shortage: slow down, conserve energy, and hang onto fat for as long as possible — even when the "famine" is actually just you skipping breakfast on purpose.

Knowing this changes how you should think about a few things:

  • The scale lies to you in the first two weeks.Early "results" are mostly water and glycogen, not fat. Later results feel slower because they're the real thing.
  • Starving yourself backfires — biologically, not just psychologically.Eat too little for too long, and your body lowers your metabolic rate and burns muscle for quick energy — setting up the exact yo-yo cycle you're trying to avoid.
  • There's no such thing as a magic "fat-burning" food, pill, or exercise.Anything claiming to melt fat off one body part is oversimplifying — or selling you something.

None of this means you're stuck. It means the rules of the game are different from what most marketing tells you — and once you know the real rules, you can actually win.
